About GTFOGaming - The Definitive History

GTFOGaming was formed in November 2005 by Al and G as a community based around a "clan". Today they are the managers of the team.

Our aims are simple - To provide the best gaming servers with top performance which are not bogged down by silly modifications or addons that do little more than cause visual spam. To have mature and sensible admins running the servers with a minimum of fuss and a quality and professional website and forum for members to provide feedback and contribute to future planning.

November 2005: Starting out with a 24 man server and a relatively simple website we began our Day Of Defeat Source community.

New Year 2006: Purchase of first Pentium 4 based dedicated server. Around this time we also moved to our new and current GTFOGaming.co.uk domain. This server, playing only Donner, soon rose to be in the Top 10 DOD Source servers in the world and briefly the UK's number 1. Over the years, we have made additions to our team from regulars who frequent our servers and have applied through our recruitment forum.

May 2006: New Presler based dedicated server - made possible by clan member funds and generous donations from ordinary players and provided at a discount price by our sponsors at KillerCreation. This new box allowed us to run 3 public servers which we used to play the well known Donner Only server along with two new Rotation Servers.

New Year 2007: New purchase of Core 2 Duo based dedicated server. Increasing our offering to 4 DOD Source  servers GTFO easily rose to become one of the most popular DOD Source communities in the world averaging close to 1,000 new unique players each and every day.

April 2007: GTFO started a new server, this time playing the popular Counter-Strike Source game

July 2007: The Counter-Strike server was withdrawn and replaced with a new Insurgency server to help spread the popularity of this new mod. For more details see insmod.net

November 2007: As GTFO approached 2 years in operation, our new Quad core based dedicated server came online allowing us to run even more games and servers and bring us to yet another level. Running 3 DOD Source servers and 3 new Team Fortress 2 servers, GTFO continued to provide some of the best servers out there.

February 2008: GTFO added a 2nd dedicated server to our list provided by RapidSwitch and paid mostly by generous donations from the gaming community who frequent our servers. GTFO is not run for profit and the funds allowed us to offer this new box for everyones enjoyment. A list of the donors who helped make this possible is viewable here . This new box allowed us to increase our offering to 4 DOD Source servers, 4 Team Fortress 2 servers and the return of our Counter-Strike Source server. A total of 9 servers with 268 player slots available.

June 2008: GTFO upgraded both their dedicated servers to new Xeon Quad Core based systems, each operating at 4x2.66GHz. These more powerful new servers allowed us to offer more games but reduce overall load on each box allowing them to run more smoothly and reliably. A Half Life 2: Deathmatch server was added along with a 4th DODS server and a 7th TF2 server. Domination.

July 2008: GTFO bring online a 3rd dedicated server to the same specification as our other two. After trying out various combinations we settled on half a dozen DODS servers, 11 TF2 servers and 3 HL2DM servers whilst occasionally running Left4Dead and Counter-Strike Source servers. Total PWNAGE.

March 2010: After a stable period throughout 2009 GTFO, through member additions and generous donations, bring online a new dedicated server specifically for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

We are not constrained like most "clans" who focus too much on playing competitively in leagues. Instead we play for fun with each other when it suits us in our public servers.
It's easy to contact GTFO. The best bet is to join our "lively" forums and make a post. Alternatively you could email admin@gtfogaming.co.uk
