BBall Evening Cup

Postby kugs » 11 Apr 2011, 06:52

Some of you may have noticed GTFO now have a bball server (demo/soldier basketball for the uninitiated.)
Would anyone be up for a little evening cup on this server? I'm thinking get a few 2v2 teams and battle it out for some fun. I'm willing to offer a hat and some paint to the winner to make it interesting.
Need to have some rules though as well. Soldiers or demos only. No sticky jumper/rocket jumper/gunboats. Demos can't use stickies to attack (only to jump), soldiers can't use shotguns to attack demos (that's pretty standard rule on bball servers).

Anyone interested?

Sounds good to me, I'm in :D
Might add to the prize list as well with some paints/tags/noisemakers.

Hopefully this will not be between the 14th or the 19th or i'll have to pass...which would be a real shame :(

I've got meself a partner: -gS- zFn
I'll get him to sign himself up when we get the webpage etc.

Is normally frowned upon being the anti-jumping weapon :P. I think vanilla other than melee (maybe no caber) would be good.

Not forgotten about this. Luckyg is kindly working on a page to promote it and Gash is fixing up the server. Thinking maybe we'll try and do it in a couple of weeks, seeing as tf2 is full of breakage atm and everyone is gonna be busy with portal 2 next week.
Rule-wise think we're going to go with default loadouts, all melees allowed (no caber). Soldiers can't attack with shotguns, demos can't attack with stickies.
Teams will be picked either by myself or a GTFO admin. That way we won't end up with Cyber and Dougal stacking :P.
Also thinking it might be good to have an entry fee of 1 reclaimed (6 weapons worth). I've already got 4 hats, some paints and some of the newer weapons I'm willing to donate to the prize fund, but would be good to have the metal to craft more so the top 3 teams can each get a prize.

Only reason I didn't put the 21st is that we're normally busy with officials. Depending on the people interested might pretty much be just our active teams who sign up anyway :P

for you pro sollies: any reason apart from personal fail that I can't seem to do long distance crouch rocket jump from my right side? Left side is no problem, but it requires the deep 180 turn. Lag? interp?

Depends on the side you have your viewmodel. If it's on the right (which I think is default) your rockets will come out to right of centre. Any jumps requiring you to turn to your right will mean you'll need less of an angle to get the same effect as the 180% to the left. There's not really any correct angle (just did a few tests and mines seemed around 120-170) as any deviances can be corrected by strafing.

A few jump maps could be helpful in getting the feel for it. Jump_rush, jump_adventure are both pretty easy ones where the jumps are reversed depending on what team you pick, which can be good for practising one side. rj_rckteer is also pretty easy, and most (if not all?) of the jumps there can be done from either side.

Most soldiers typically jump from one side, which isn't too big a problem, but being able to do both is pretty helpful. I'm much stronger with my right jumps, and tend to use them most of the time, though I can jump from the left fairly well if I need to (had to practice it quite a bit, and still feels a bit unnatural :P).

thanks for the info o roaming one. Seems to be more stable with my new config, just need some practice to get those far jumps right I guess. I still shoot some rockets too far out to the side, like you have to do from the left, which ends up in those embarassing 2 meter jumps :P

I think i'll still be here on the 22nd...I hope so...really wanted to do this :D
I always used to turn to my left, but have now mostly got the hang of the right (thanks to Kugies training). I didn't originally realise that the rocket came out just slight from centre and so thought I was crouching and jumpin wrong, but it was just my angle wasn't enough :P

Maybe postpone for a week then 'til the 29th? Imma have some difficulties for this friday, but next week should be ok. We could still do a big one with a website and sub forums and bumming and prizes, but maybe do this for a smaller one just for fun first to see interest?
A bigger cup could be lots of fun, and organized correctly could attract lots of players, but I suggested this 3 months ago and we still haven't played once.

We should probably try to get in some practice before the cup next week :p

I have one server (from my previous team which no one uses) and there is kugs'/mine server which we can use. This means at any time we can do about 2 2v2 matches. We could do more if GTFO gives up a server or temporarily converts the war server for this. But that's not my call to make, just saying it's possible amirite? Problem is, I don't control those servers, so an admin would be needed for that server during games.

Anywayz, I'd like to do a practice round tonight, preferable 8 people who would like to join would be good. Let's say around 19 CETish and up (if we can find the people that is)!

I'm in, and I think kugs is available and willing for tonight (for BBall you perv) so we need at least 2 more to fill one server!

If I recall correctly, the War server does have the pro ball map available that used to be on #7. It's just a case of confirming you guys want to use the server for that purpose and getting an admin on board.

No, I and Sucker won, we had the most caps! And I had the most kills (I think)! I.e. I and (mostly) Sucker win!

Also, now that I think of it, we should probably start a list of who's playing next week Friday:
