from looking at the BC2 forums (bunch of kids flaming each other) it seems that there is a 'updater' to update the beta to the latest version.
Does this happen automatically with steam, or is there a updater program we should run to search for the latest version?

Not heard of it, but steam should all be automatic, that's what I paid my extra 10er for!

Yes, it's automatic on steam.
When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" - I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter than "Yes"
