zombies. Im in

not too sure about the 'melee only' aspect. Could see it getting quite repetitive if for each kill you need to go in face to face as there are no projectile weapons
- "we need a spy killin GTFO.J !!!"
- "kill that fuckin sniper"
- " GTFO.J this is the first you've fucked me like this. and i dont like it"
- " fuck this, dont we have a sniper whom ping is less than 50 to take out gtfo.j????"

I'm quite intrigued about the melee combat and then weapon customisation. How much can you customise a bat? Nails through it, barbed wire. Will be good to see if they can pull it off.

ive watched this a few times now, and i have to say the trailer is amazing. Is lots of hype over the quality of the trailer and it possibly being the best game trailer of the year so far

What I liked in L4D was that your action had some consequences. It wasn't just running and killing zombies. If Dead Island makers will force me to use my brain it can be quite interesting, otherwise boring.

Disappointing that noone has bumped this yet seeing as how Dead Island is out now. I got it and it's awesome. It's flaws are bugs for the most part and the game has been patched a few times already. Much better than the L4D games. I've not played it co-op yet but will be soon and I imagine that will be so much better since it was the same with Borderlands.

Game is like Borderlands but with zombies and a bigger focus on melee, really good.

Agreed, a brilliant game. Sort of a cross between left 4 dead and crysis. But yeah still some major bugs in the game. But will be ironed out soon enough i'm sure as they've already caught most of them :)

From the first trailer I thought this was going to be amazing, then I saw a gameplay trailer and it looked shite, so it put me off a bit and didn't bother with it :/

First trailer put me off because of how over hyped it was. Gameplay trailers were meh tbh. What got me interested was seeing a few short play throughs and clips on Youtube. Kind of like Borderlands but with zombies and a bigger focus on melee. Also there's lots of little things that make the game much more amusing. Just finished playing some coop with 2 friends and although I don't have a working mic atm it was really fun.

Also, I found a smiling zombie in the game:

I might pick this up during the inevitable Steam holiday sale, but there's simply too many games coming out the rest of the year, therefore this one is a pass for me at the moment.

I'm playing this atm and quite enjoying it (except late at night, after a smoke, when I become a right pussy and start jumping at every little thing!).

GTS made a good point during a chat we had yesterday: The game gets harder the higher levelled you are ('cause the zombies level up too). Hmmm, I think GTS put it better than that, 'cause that actually seems like a good thing to me. I think his point is that as you get better skills and weapons, it's frustrating that it actually becomes more difficult to kill the zombies (I'm level 35 now and two Infected can take me down in seconds if I slash instead of kick!!)

However, it's cool when you find a super-rare weapon, upgrade it and add some mod to it and the playing fields are evened out somewhat for a while again!

I've realised you can't get too precious, even with those super-rare weapons, 'cause eventually they become useless. Much like Borderlands. (In fact, there seem to be a lot of similarities with Borderlands: weapon rarity colour coded, character upgrade trees, etc).

I'm still loving this though and am currently wielding a purple "Devastating" machete or some other blade (first purple find). I found an Orange hammer called "M.C." which I thought tied well with the "Can't touch this" achievement, but I sold it because it was 10 levels below my character. Anyone found any rare weapons that they can't bear to part with?

Right well after playing tonight unless I can find a way to modify my save so I can place items in my inventory then I'm done with the game. Killed a thug, saw another one so turned a small corner, not going far at all to see if there was an explosive nearby. There wasn't so I go back and that thug I just killed had respawned, takes me down to half hp and since my rage is completely useless for the character I play as and I was stuck in a corner cause of how I got hit, I died. I respawn miles away, huge mob of zombies next to me and all 8 weapons in my weapon wheel are gone, not even in my inventory, just gone. Would be a pain to go through those zombies with weapons never mind without and some of those items I can only get from quests, not willing to continue without them nor start the game again. Not happy with that.

Sad times GTS.

On a different note, I *may* have been playing this game too much lately. I woke up this morning with a glasses case in my bed with me which I had apparently retrieved from my pillaged two bed-side drawers, left wide open from looting. Obviously, during my sleep, I had been looking for a "Phone" and "$42" or perhaps a rare weapon with which to fight the hoards and hoards of zombies.
