First impressions

Postby Yeti! » 10 Jan 2010, 18:33

Hi G,

First impressions that the GTFO CS:S server was ace.

Point 1:
May I suggest ban AWP?

It is such a noob cannon, and for me, ruins the game. At least, maybe a limit of 2, max?

Point 2:
I think dust2 and office are the only maps you need. There are very few others out there that I really enjoyed. In particular, dust (1) was awful, such a stalemate and sniper fest.

I hope others agree with me.

AWP is limited to 1 at the moment :)

I know Jamie wants it removed completely...

I wouldn't mind seeing it completely removed... There's no skill in it, and get pissed everytime someone bullshit kills you with it...

awp and auto (after some hiccups with terrorist auto) now both disabled.

great news G, i think thats gonna help make it more popular. Is no fun in getting picked off as soon as you leave spawn by someone with AWP, then having to miss out the whole round :(

Will be trying to fill the server up when i have spare time.

We gotta stick with it this time, UKCS have some very popular CSS servers and if they can manage them along with TF2 and DODS, so can we :)

AWP & Auto should be removed for Office, however on dust2 it should be limited to 1 per team as for the dust2 map it is viable.

I understand peoples dislike of the AWP however I have to point out it is also part of the game. IMO you cannot simply remove part of a game because you dislike it. Don't get me wrong, I dislike the AWP as much as most people for being a crazy hand cannon, however I also realise some people are simply very good with it and it remains part of the game. We've not removed demomen from TF2 however there are a lot of people that dislike demomen for being a "noob" class. Removal on Office yes, the map is to small, dust2 no.

AWP could work on dust2, but i still think Auto should be completely removed. And for those who have trained with AWP, use Scout, still kills on headshots, and imo you're not a skilled sniper unless most of your shots are headshots.

Couldn't agree more:

if you want to snipe, use the scout, or even M4.
headshots are so critical in counter strike as MOST weapons will one-shot on a headshot, or at least do 80+ dmg.

Therefore, the main point is that CS:S is a very skilled game (trying beating someone genuinely good and genuinely fast :( ) and that AWP is against this. Shoot someone in the foot with an AWP and you can kill them. Shoot them with the AK similar and you need to be fast and hit the head to win a 1-1 shootout.

That's why I believe the AWP should be banned.

And exactly bevause dust 2 has a couple of long corridors, all the MORE reason to remove it on these maps: a skilled scout-sniper will own on those corridors, whereas an AWP noobster like myself can even win!

I'm less convinced about the auto-sniper, as iirc it does less damage, but still owns the scout. I guess I've never really seen anyone completely pwn with the auto sniper as it is virtually always banned.

Still, I'm happy with the decision made.

New dilemma: revisit CS:S, or stay with TF2!!!

the awp sucks. And DUST 2 is the worst map to have it on as teams will immediately try to snipe each other as they are leaving spawn. You die then and your out for the round, and if i keep getting picked off from miles away and then having to wait ages, i end up rage-quitting and moving to a non-awp server.

The majority of servers seem to have it banned, and i think we should as well.

Think Jamie's right, the middle way on dust2 is just BS if someone has an AWP, a Scout i can take getting killed by, atleast then i know the person had something resembling skills. Keep both weapons banned!

The problem with the AWP is that someone will always cry "but it's in the game". Which is a fair point, which means Valve is the problem. If only they did some balancing patches for CSS like they do for TF2...

True, but that doesnt mean that we have to use it. There are some fairly crappy maps provided by Valve in the game, but we choose not to use those on our server. Is a similar principal.

If the majority dislike it then it should be kept banned.

I had written a long reply earlier but deleted it as I thought it might cause an argument. However I feel it has to be said that wanting to have a weapon removed because it makes you rage is a pathetic reason.

If you keep getting picked off at the start of the round on Dust2 by someone using the AWP, I suggest you attempt to avoid being picked off. Jumping at an angle, taking a different line and going the other way can prevent you being ganked straight off.

I've seen people get picked off right at the start by people using a Scout, yet you wouldn't remove that, would you?

Most public servers will have the AWP restricted to one per team, however not removed completely (depending on the map). This was the same with match servers when I used to play in ED matches.

however, if the majority want it disabled (Which it seems to be) then we can keep it disabled.

As said before, the scout requires some skill to use, and you need a headshot to get a instant kill. Awp you can just spam away. And the majority of servers playing Office and Dust 2 like ours that i have come across have it restricted completely.

Its not a good way to get our new CSS server popular if we allow a weapon if it is vastly hated.

Thought i might add a few suggestions i remember worked well back when i was admin for a couple of servers some years ago:

Lower the player cap to 16\24(is it possible to have 2 servers with 16 people max on each? You can then have designated DE/CS servers)
As far as i remember, most people do enjoy less populated servers in CSS, since you dont have to wait 5 minutes each time you die untill either team wins and a new round begins.
If the server has banned AWP, state it in the server title, this usually helps alot.

More maps? its been a while since I played CSS regularly, so cant really remember any names of maps people tend to like, but can check it out when i get back from school.

just played on your server since i discovered that i have CSS on my steam oO (freeuse special or something?)

(edit: forget what i said ^^)i would prefer that you allow one awp per team, i usually prefer the rushing-into-death-tactics as many tf2-players can verify but i think the awp is needed and shouldnt be removed (same with the auto-sniper).

and there ist the betting-system, i was never a fan of that. i know that it can help the loosing team to get better weapons but i would prefer them to work as a team and save some money for two rounds than letting them buy new wps each round and still losing.

sry for my bad english, it has been awhile since i had to write an english text ^^

cheers :D

any news here? without some changes to the server its gonna stay pretty dead. btw de_piranesi, de_cbble, de_chateu, de_inferno and de_train are all some good maps.

and the awp limit (1 per team) is useless, either allow it or dont allow it imo.

i always join dust2 servers which state NO AWP :) if the limit is set to 1 the person whos holding the awp will only camp with it in order to keep it as long as possible.
