According to MS, the "Memory could not be written" error is to do with an OS error & suggests updating your software.

However, we all know how usefull MS are, even when it comes to their own products.

A quick google search turned up several pages or rubbish results, that said, a fair majority suggested the user disabled DEP. This appeared to solve their issue(s).

I`ll try the DEP after I`ve solved my defrag problem.

Like you I was hunting around google and found someone had the same problem and defragging solved it. So I tried the default Windows defrag and got this -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fragments File Size Files that cannot be defragmented
2 604 bytes \Program Files\AmiKit\AmiKit\Libs\xad
11,537 553 MB \Documents and Settings\Zola\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\ggzcptu9.default\Mail\Local Folders\Inbox
437 976 MB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\source sounds.gcf
409 985 MB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\source 2007 shared materials.gcf
36 1.01 GB \Program Files\Sierra Entertainment\World in Conflict\wicloc12.sdf
3,435 1.02 GB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\source materials.gcf
74 1.16 GB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\day of defeat source.gcf
1,049 1.23 GB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\team fortress 2 materials.gcf
820 1.41 GB \Program Files\Sierra Entertainment\World in Conflict\wic1.sdf
58 1.64 GB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\counter-strike source shared.gcf
12,089 2.01 GB \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\team fortress 2 content.gcf
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see the majority of the problem is Steam Apps, and Windows defrag can`t move them. But I`ve since found that Diskeeper 2008 can solve this.

I`ll let you know how I get on.

It seems to be working :D

I`ve been running Diskeeper for 2 days now and it says I only have 2 files that need defraging now. I popped onto 2fort this morning and change class about 20 times with no crashes! Plus the PC seems to be running better now so watch out Cole I`m after you :)
