GTFOGaming Wants You! [ETF2L Highlander Cup]

if any of you guys check regularly on the http://www.teamfortress.com website you will know that the European TF2 leagues have been working with Valve to try and entice more pub players to play competitive.

Well, they are just doing that now. ETF2L are due to announce shortly a Highlander Community Cup/Challenge... For this only community teams/players can enter.

GTFO. will be looking to enter as many possible teams as possible, as stated on the link above, teams will consist of no more than 14 players (inc. buddy + leader).

Highlander is a 9 v 9 mode, where class limit is 1.

Players who are wishing to play, need to be a regular on GTFO. servers and preferably a few admins will know who you are. At present the setup and rules etc have not been released so that will be updated in time.

If you are wanting to join, leave a note here and send a PM to myself.

Criteria

Obviously not everyone will get onto one of our teams, so in that case, an admin will take priority over your space unless they choose otherwise, and in the event it is between several regs, the more known reg will take priority.

When do they plan to do the matches? If there's any match/practice before June, I'm definitely out.

anybody wanting to join in on this,

please sign up to the ETF2L site... and enter steam id for verification... still trying to sort out the teams, as it looks like we will be running 2 teams... but as long as you are verifed and on it, its simple to add to the teams...

also, anytime your on servers mention to other community folk about it as the more the merrier

EDIT: if you can commit the team, just sign up... this thread will be locked when there isn't space or time left...

once signed up, leave a message here or send me a PM so we can have some form of list to who is going to be there, as i don't want to have 2 teams signed up and only 4 ppl turn up :/

I have a question, whats stoping the more pro clans who are allready in leagues signing up, the steam id odvisouly. But whats stoping them making new accounts. Its not exactly a expesive game plus i seen it under 10 quid when steam have the deals going.

I honestly think in terms of community vs community we have a good chance of winning. Not that i care about winning cough cough.

I remeber when we all played mw2 when it was new out we pretty much owned everyone, we didnt even really work on team work and stuff it just happend like nature. Alot of the time we got matched with clans and we still owned them.

If its a well admined cup which i susspect it will be, any players or teams deemed too good will be banned.

I played in a jolt league for quake we had a div 1 player in our ranks we only played one match with him and it wasnt even a league game it was instantly spotted and he was banned from playing with us.

Look guys i think its a great initiative, and i dont want to come over as an asshole, but by coming with all these criteria (including practice) you are coming with the exact reasons why pub players dont play competitive. It requires you to dedicate a certain amount of time into it. Its not the jump right into action you can achieve by simply playing in a pub. If you are going to want pub players in matches just pick up whoever are online and work out the team. Good luck with it anyway, once again im not saying you should stop this initiative :)

you can't just pick whoever is online, as you can only sign up a max of 14 players...

and the reason for this is to give the community/pub players the chance to see what comp. is like against other non-comp teams/players not just turn up and play...

what you are talking about is a TF2 merc/mix matches, which are easy for any pub player to get into....

go to IRC channel #TF2mix and you can play in games all day long, and that other website (forgot name)...

hehe everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, even if it may contain some nasty stuff about me :)

@Gash: you are right, but imo that (PUGS) is the way to fill the gap between pubs and competitive play, just my humble (and according to some: idiotic) opinion.

@fission_chips: this is a forum, ppl come here to discuss certain stuff, opinions may vary ^^
