Anywho, I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has any interest in this. I realise it's deadly close to our own LAN, been just a week later but it's still something to consider, especially if you live in the south (or not, hell I'm traveling 205 miles to get to it). Below is a little bit of information from the FAQ on the i43 event page.
What is the Insomnia Gaming Festival?
The Insomnia Gaming Festival is a gaming event for all ages, where gamers and industry leaders alike come together to celebrate games in all their forms.
Held 3 times a year at the International Centre in Telford, insomnia is a fusion of gaming, exhibitions, tournaments & social gatherings resulting in a festival that really does have something for everyone!
Where & when is it held?
The Insomnia Gaming Festival is held 3 times a year at The International Centre in Telford.
The first event of the year is during the Easter break in April, the second in the summer over the August Bank Holiday, and the third in November.
How much are tickets?
Bring your own computer/console (BYOC): £92 and allows 24/7 access to the whole 5 day event!
Note that during our early bird offers, tickets are as cheap as £63!
Spectator Pass: £10 per day or £25 for the whole event
This ticket gives you full access to the Exhibition where you can see some of the biggest names in the industry showing off their latest developments. You can also watch our world class tournaments live as they unfold, seeing the best in action!
What tournaments are running at the event?
We run prize winning tournaments at every event, which do vary from year to year as new games come out.
There are of course some firm favourites which nearly always make a return at every event. Counter-Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, Call Of Duty 4 and Starcraft2 are among the regulars at the event, but make sure you keep an eye on our tournaments page to see what we have planned for each event!
You can even setup your own tournament if you want! Just ask one of our tournament admins and they will create you a full tournament setup in our event tournament system
Also, if you find that people are playing a game that you don’t have, don’t worry! We have our own local Steam content server, which allows you to get your gaming purchases super quick!
What is the Early Arrival Service (EAS)?
Early Arrival Service is undoubtedly our most popular additional service available for the iSeries, often with over 50% of the entire event partaking!
Early Arrival Service (“EAS”) allows you to arrive from 6pm the night before the event (Thusrday evening), meaning you can be set up and ready to go the next day after a good night’s sleep, avoiding that early morning journey.
Although we don’t guarentee network or power will be available for your desk until 9am the next morning, it’s been a very long time since an event that didn’t have these provided on Thursday evening!
This virtually adds another day onto the event for many people! EAS evening has a great atmosphere, with the keenest of gamers waiting to get gaming, and definitely something you have to try at least once.
Is there a map of the event?
Yes.
I've opted for EAS, so that's something to keep in mind if you are planning on attending.
As for accommodation, the majority choose to camp out which is what I'm planning on doing personally. Alternatively you can sleep in the communal sleeping areas (also know as the red rooms) or choose a nearby hotel/B&B. Unfortunately you cannot sleep at your keyboard due to fire regulations
That's the basics covered, there's a huge amount of information going into more detail about the event on the iSeries event site. Also have a look at some of the pictures from the last iSeries event (i42) to get a better idea of what it's all about! - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mpuk/colle ... 544980512/
We are currently planned to seat in the UKCS clan box at the event, spaces are limited but there should be plenty of room left for anyone who wants to join in at the moment. If you want to sit in the box let NachoDuck know or contact Trell or Unspecified on the UKCS forums with your booking ID as soon as possible!
