Mumble

Postby GTFO. Systematic Slayer » 15 Jan 2012, 13:07

Hey guys, it seems that the Mumble server is down. And I have asked a few others if they can load it but it is down for them as well. An error message comes up saying "A referral was returned from the server." error while starting Mumble on Windows.

Is anyone aware of why Mumble is doing this please?

I'm getting it too. I don't think it's the server but rather mumble itself having some problem. Not sure though.

Also, Sly mentioned the Mumble servers were rebooted last night, perhaps they're still having problems... If the article above is accurate, perhaps there's a certificate serving service on the server, or something, that has doesn't start automatically/properly? (LOL at my unintentional alliteration)

what are the certificate details you have for your install

go to program files > mumble > right click mumble.exe > digital signatures > highlight signature > click details

Hmm, I have tried all the above suggestions, and it won't let me run the zip file and comes up with this error message:
'The program can't start because libprotobuf.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.'

"A referral was returned from the server." error while starting Mumble on Windows

See: http://blog.mumble.info/important-updat ... le-1-2-3a/
Otherwise:
Check your system time. Windows certificate check will fail if your clock is some years ahead/behind.
For Window XP: Install the latest Root Certificate update through Windows Update (it's an optional update) to fix this problem.
For Windows Vista/7: Right-click the Mumble executable, select "Properties", select the "Digital Signature" tab, click "Details" and click "Install certificate".

Installing https://www.startssl.com/certs/ca.crt to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" cert store should also work.

If you compiled Mumble yourself either sign the binary or disable signing.

From the Mumble wiki, although despite the post on the Mumble blog I'm having no issues connecting on 1.2.3a :?

The server as part of our auto reboot process runs the mumble program and the authentication thing for it. The problem is during the auto reboot it launches them in the wrong order and it has a nightmare/hissy fit. I kicked it a few times into submission and it was fine when I left it as I had a rather nice chat with Russ on there.

Well I did the latest certificate thing, and nothing worked. But you need to uninstall it and reinstall it again and then it works fine and dandy. Good as new for me now, thanks guys!

I did start it a couple of days ago when I restarted the other servers but I'm not sure why it didn't start properly. Either way I've started it again now.
