New NAS box

Postby GTFO. TommyBoy » 10 Jan 2012, 15:32

Just set up my Christmas pressie! http://www.synology.com/products/produc ... j&lang=enu
Not looked into the full features of it yet but it's currently set up as my print server, supporting apple airprint with pretty much any USB printer. Download center supporting multiple links from filehosting sites, torrents, NBZ etc. Media server with full DLNA and uPnP support. I've got a WD20EARX in it at the moment and waiting till drive prices drop a bit before adding another for redundancy should the worst happen. I must say its great not having my PC on all the time either, saving the leccy! There's also a nice iPhone app for it to give full access when not at home, plus full access via HTTP and webDAV. Pretty bloody pleased all round with it :D

Might be a while, WD and Seagate lost their main production sites in the Thai flooding

WD restarted production on 2nd December and prices have come down a good bit the last few weeks, I'll wait till I can get one for €100 or less, shouldn't be too long.

I bought a 2tb external drive from maplin for £80. They were selling 2tb drives for £120. Cracked open the case and used the drive outside of the box. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2tb-sams ... e-89ms-ncq 2tb for £102 isnt too crazy for the time being.
