That was on an LSE computer linked to the network by gigabit ethernet, which is linked to the internet by a multi-gigabit fibre-optic link.

Luckyg, your upload speed is normal. If you're on 20mbit, it's the download speed u wanna be worried about.

This test is pretty bad, it's usually a little better than this.. just a little though. BT are clearly the best ISP around.

Yup pretty lucky with UPC here in Romania and its dirt cheap at 140 RON(about 36 euro) for digital cable w/DVR, telephone service, and 20Mb internet.

Hmmm, they're also in Netherlands - 24Mbps download, 2.5Mbps upload for €35/£30 month. And they also have 60Mbps and 120Mbps fibre connections.....

WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS BLOODY COUNTRY?!

upgrading my virgin media package from 2mb to 20mb next month, should hopefully see a bit of a boost!

Only get 245 kb/s max with a 2mb connection. Believe thats standard tho for 2mb...

Hey Jamie Virgin throttle speeds at certain times during day especially if you are a larger user.

When you get 20Mb don't expect that speed all the time. Yesterday I was averaging 4Mb on a 20Mb
connection. They are gits. Anyhow I'm only paying for 2Mb with a 20Mb connection ;)

well im paying for a 2mb connection at the moment, and my max speed is 244kb/s.

What do you reckon would be the average download speed if i updgrade to 20mb?

Hi Jamie...well it depends on where you download from I guess. I have experienced nothing higher
than 1.1M/s. It can swing between 260-784Kb/s download. Yesterday I downloaded cp_busytown that was 20Mbyte in size and took 4 minutes at peak time(1700ish).

Just don't expect everything to be lightening quick.

yea i know im not expecting lightning quick speeds, just 'fast enough' speeds. The only time i get max download speed is through rapidshare premium downloads, where it max's out at 246kb/s

Belgium is one of the few countries where the main ISP's have download limits. I'm glad they raised the limit from 10 to 25 trough the past 6 months.

most ISPs in the uk have *published* limits although all of them have the limits. My ADSL is 300gig limit although my mobile is only 1gig per month (its not like I download heavily on it!)

Lol, another thread necro'd by another newbie...

Oh well, since this has been opened, I upgraded to 30mbit a couple of months ago, and I'm not disappointed:
Image

Speedsweeper, has your area not had the upload speed upgrade yet? Your download:upload ratio should be around 10:1 after the upgrade, so you should get 5mbit upload.
