Your map differs from the server's.

Postby NapZ » 31 Mar 2009, 22:08

Hey dudes,
I played TF2 today and when I tried to play dustbowl, this message appears :

"Your map [maps/cp_dustbowl.bsp] differs from the server's."

It did the same with Steel and I guess with several other maps.
The thing is that I played Dustbowl yesterday or sunday and everything was alright. I had a look on Steam's FAQ, on some forums, etc. I uninstalled/reinstalled TF2, verified the game cache, etc. and nothing worked. So I ask you if somebody knows how to fix that bloody bug. I can't play anymore !
Thank you !

Computer overclocked ?
When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" - I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter than "Yes"

Happened to me a while back with dods and tf2 at the same time. I could only play on Goldrush and Donner on dods. All others said the map differs thing. Eventually fixed it after 3 days by re-installing windows :) I know its probably not what you want to hear, but worked for me!

Try deleting only the maps in the maps folder.

So :
I did as you said, I even deleted the whole maps/soundcache content. Then the game downloads maps, etc... All the maps were working (well I think) except Well, Granary and Steel. So I deleted these maps from the folder again, it works except Steel, which is still crashing. But this time, Dustbowl doesn't work AGAIN ! And to finish I tried to delete clientregistry.blob and guess what ...? Almost all the maps don't work !!! I want to kill myself, please help me.

Like I said, format, solves everything :)

I know how frustrating it is, but by the time you've tried lots of different things and then see if they work, you could have a fresh install.

Mine's worked great ever since I did it.

I'll try to uninstall Steam before, and reinstall it. But before I try to delete the folder one more time, I'll see...

EDIT : I just reinstalled Steam and still the same problem...
Is it enough to reinstall Windows or have I to format my hard disk ??

I don´t get this. The official valve maps are included in the games .gcf file (in the steamapps folder). So if you have .bsp files from official maps in the /maps folder of team fortress 2 this *will* cause problems. Only custom maps should be there.

But I asked same questions on another forum and players told me to delete .bsp files in the /maps folder and they don't have any problem :o

So you have e.g. a cp_dustbowl.bsp in the /team fortress2/tf/maps folder?
And if you delete that und then play a game it´s there again afterwards?

My mistake :
In this folder I have e.g. cp_dustbowl.manifest and cp_dustbowl.cache but I don't have any .bsp file !

Ok...that´s fine...

Usually a verify of the steam cache file should fix this problem...which you did already. So the only thing i can imagine in your case is that the gcf is still corrupted (in whatever way).
I would check the HDD for errors (with the option to repair bad sectors).
After that verify game chache again.
If that fails it looks like a complete format and reinstall is the only option then...

Another (easier) idea is to delete the complete /team fortress 2 folder...so you really get rid of any content that may have been downloaded. You might try that first...

Maybe it is a gfx problem? Who knows. Try updating the drivers for video and sound just in case.

I'm not surprised, I once had an unstable overclock which was giving memory read errors occasionaly, and I got this error a lot.

Hmm, getting this error on all maps now...

Had to take out my second set of 2GB earlier because of strange lockups.

I can take out the remaining 2GB but then my pc won't start...

Can you imagine the frustration of reformatting an reinstalling all software just to find out that wasn't the problem?

I can...

My software usually doesn't feck up that much cuz I maintain it. As for the game rig, some minor Google chroming on it, the rest is BD play but mostly gaming.
