Inception & Toy Story 3

Postby GTFO. vito » 26 Jul 2010, 14:04

Went to see Inception on Fri night and Toy Story 3 yesterday.

Now, being a chap who can recite word for word the complete dialogue of Toy Story 1 from start to finish I was ready to be disappointed but it was out of this world. From the opneing scene to the small cuts at the end - flawless. Maybe I'm too big a fan though - was sitting down with two of my sons saying in my best Woody and Buzz accents "It's not a laser, it's a little light bulb that blinks" and "*You my friend, are responsible for delaying my rendezvous with Star Command!".

Inception, well, gotta say - this film is just all kinds of awesome. It's complex, very complex, and it's house-of-cards type architecture was difficult for some to follow in the screening I was in as a few left when the story started to get folded in on itself. At two and a half hours I thought it would be a bit dragged out but it went by in a flash.

Two absolutely different but absolutely brilliant films.

Anyone else seen either/both?

saw Toy Story 3 last night, and i thought it was very entertaining. Seemed alot darker and more aimed at grown ups then the previous ones.

Hoping to see inception this week

Saw Inception last weekend and thought it was incredible. One of the better films that has come out lately I think.

Hopefully see Toy Story 3 some time this coming weekend.

I've got zero bad things to say about toy Story 3 - exceptional all the way through.

I've got one thing to say about Inception and it's a very minor obversation - but not a criticism. Mr Nolan must've been worried that some people wouldn't be able to follow the story given it's content so there are some real "this narrative is for the dumbarses who need the storyline spoon-fed to them" bits which were tedious. That said, with the budget, maybe he didn't wan't to risk poeple just having to get it first time without some of the explain-explina-explina narrative. Like I say though, even with those dumbed down explanations mid-dialogue people still left - presumably they just couldn't get it.

Went to see Toy Story 3 with Sly +1 last Tuesday, really loved it as much as I did the other two that I saw whilst growing up. Off to see Inception on Saturday and probably The A-Team movie aswell, really looking forward to seeing what Inception is all about and then off to see Splice the week after :).

Loads of decent films about atm.

Really want to see both of these films, but the local Odeon have jacked up ticket prices again for no reason. No way can I afford to pay £8+ for a film - that's how much a DVD costs. :x

Wow, they certainly aren't trying to compete with the larger chains then. You can get a non-3D ticket at Cineworld for £5 on Tuesdays :?.

Well, it'd be £3.45 or £2.95 depending on what time of the day you go as it's cheaper on Tuesdays because of their Bargain Tuesdays ;). But that's a little beside the point hehe :D.

Wtf, £ 3.50 for watching a movie? No wonder ppl download the movies here so much :S here its at least the double. Avatar costed € 12,50 to watch in 3D.

For £3.50, which is about € 4.20, most would not even bother downloading some R5 or a preview

And any movie theater I know here has no "bargain ....days". The only one I know is a Tuesday "surprise" (as in: they don't tell you which movie it is) movie for 5 euro or something at a certain time (bout 8 PM). Most times its just an old shit movie, so nobody takes that one.

As for the prices of some soft-drinks and popcorn etc, those match the price for the ticket. And then they wonder why ppl smuggle their own stuff in.

Seen both now. Loved Toy Story 3. Brought it all to a natural conclusion and I really hope they leave it there.

Wasn't convinced by Inception. Very clever story, amazing visuals, but I just didn't think it was as amazing as everyone else seems to.

They're charging for 3D glasses now too. Well, I'm definitely not watching a 3D film ever again..

There are no plans for a fourth film and I think everyone expects it to be left there. It won't be the last time we see the cast of Toy Story though - Disney/Pixar has plans to show a short film involving the characters infront of Cars 2 which is to be released next year.

You can take existing pairs with you to avoid paying again.

I loved the short film shown before Toy Story 3. Possibly the most creative animation I've ever seen and a clear example of how Pixar are streets ahead of any other animation company.

Saw Inception today, really enjoyed it. I love films that make you think and pay attention, may go see it again if the opportunity comes up.

Inception story question - So at the end of film, what do you think? Is Dominic in the real world or is he dreaming? Personally I'm still as undecided on the idea as the film leaves it.

Also saw The A-Team movie, which wasn't great imo but maybe I just didn't get what the appeal was supposed to be. Seemed to drag on alot to me and felt alot longer than Inception (despite been 1 hour shorter).

Just seen the movie.

Inception answer: I think he dreams there, in all previous times he "did" that in real world, it was only a couple seconds.

I think it's some misdirection, everyone comes out thinking the spinning top is his totem. We are shown it's his wife, he says it's wife and he says you can't have someone elses as your own. His kids are his totem, and whenever he's dreaming he can't see their faces, and at the end he finally does. Pretty clear in my mind.

Really? Thought your two were a little older than mine (he turned 4 last week). He has sat through full length movies (with 3D glasses when necessary) for the last year and a bit.

seen inception. Very good. my take on the "question"

His totem probably was his wifes as it was her idea. I doubt he is dreaming as he saw his kids faces whereas he never did in real life - the moment passed. IRL the grandmother called the kids and they ran away, at the end they didnt. Still, it left the top spinning to keep the idea of a sequel open.

My opinion:

He is in limbo - I'm sure they said when you die in 3rd level dream, you cannot be woken to reality (and end up in limbo). The totem belonging to his wife which "isnt allowed" as already said indicating he isn't in reality. Everytime he dreams about his children it's the same images, and finally at the end same images again - the children haven't aged at all, and it's the same sequence replayed. I think he's constantly dreaming and waking up to a new dream.
When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" - I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter than "Yes"
