Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Postby GTFO. gungadin » 03 Sep 2010, 09:05

I know there is a thread relating to this in this section, but rather than revive the dead I wanted to get a feel for who around the community still plays this game online? I see 27 of my friends own this game - and most of them are around the GTFO comm.

i played the beta where it was just that one map, and i really enjoyed it but had to play on the Hardcore servers as the damage dealt was pathetic in normal servers.

Ive got the full game, but i haven't actually played it once since the beta ended, keep meaning to try it again.

Port Valdez is still one of my favorite maps. with the VIP Map Packs (what a disc-based scam tho') there's also quite a bit of variety to the mapcycle.

I pretty much just play regular mode. true, it takes quite a bit of damage to down one, but Hardcore mode is just infested with camping Wookies. godforbid someone actually try to accomplish any of the objectives.

Maybe if we have enough people interested we can twist G's arm to see if we can get a server devoted to BFBC2 for trial? I know killercreation have servers.

we did have BFBC2 servers when the game started, but i dont think many GTFO players stuck with the game. Im sure G will re-evaluate the demand if there are more of us playing it now

Will try and get on there myself soon

GTFO had 6 BF:BC2 servers at one point, however due to crappy support from EA they were dropped.

I hear EA are pretty crap user end too - apparantly once you've handed over your money and activated your product they don't care any more...

I'll have a chat with G some time over the next few weeks and see if it's a complete no-go'er or if there is some scope provided the demand is there.

I think I'd probably get back into it if GTFO had a server, with a good rotation of maps and Admin'd properly

One of the problems with BC2 was that it was hard to administer ingame, not at all like what we get with Source, seeing as it uses a 3rd party app to manage players on the server. I would hope this might have changed since we last had some servers.

EA give you zero access to the server itself other than the log file stream as far as I know. They provide a protocol which allows you to query the log files and perform actions based on data however you are not given direct access to the server software in the same fashion as HL2 games.

The apps that were available at the time GTFO had BF:BC2 servers were pretty poor along with only allowing for the monitoring of a single server (per instance of the app). G had been working on a Python script at one point to implement however I think due to the lack of support from EA (in all senses) they were ditched.

That's a real shame. I can't understand why they would be so anal about things. Maybe it's worth talking to killercreation as I see they've got a few servers up with what looks like custom ranking on them. I've also seen multiple servers running slot reservation systems and they all look different - so maybe EA have budged a little?

As far as I remember a lot of the bugs have gone, the most annoying one was not being able to stab people when it clearly was a perfect attack. Now of course you can get stabbed half way up a ladder with the person being at the bottom lol really annoying lol

well as long as there is still some hardcore servers im happy. I couldn't stand the normal servers where it often took a whole clip (or more)to kill one person.

Im rubbish on map names, but Sparta Gaming do a few servers that are all hardcore.

One is always... that place where in Rush you get tanks at the start and everyone snipes off the cliffs to the left - then end up in the 'town' where everyone again snipes off the cliffs at the top.

The rest are all mixed maps.

Yh jamie plenty of hardcore servers.
As Gunga says, BC2 server/s would be cool, but from what snuggs says it looks grim.
Loved the beta, then found out I couldn't use that account and was pretty disappointed, as it took me a while to get to lvl 10.
Got back into it recently and me and hein have been playing lots ;] , with the odd bit of KARR here and there.
Bugs wise, as loser says pretty much none, although I did get the parachute bug once tonight (when you spawn, you fall out of the sky without a chute :@ ). Not really noticed crazy stabbing, but u have to be pretty accurate still.

Add me up - GTFO. AlmightyAvenger or maybe just AlmightyAvenger - not sure :/
