Server Rules

Postby GTFO. al » 04 Mar 2006, 18:06

We've always tried to keep the rules to a minimum and let people get on with playing but frankly some people need instructed in right and wrong or else they think everything is acceptable.

Rules applied to all games
1. Don't use cheats/hacks.
Penalty: Permanent ban.

2. Don't spam/advertise other clans/servers/websites.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

3. If you join the game, dont go AFK and sit there. If you do, leave the server and free the spot.
Penalty: Kicked

4. Don't spam voice comms. No one is interested in listening to "CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" 50 times and its even less impressive when people say they can hear but you carry on regardless. People also dont like idiots playing queen, wham, abba or some other lame music down the comms either. Avoid singing too. Don't do it as people actually need to listen in game to help work out where enemies are and such like. And speak English. The voice comms is for the team.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

5. Don't use map exploits. Maps have bugs. If you find out where such bugs are dont exploit them. If you do, expect a ban.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned

6. Don't be a spectator comedian. We've seen cases where a player goes spectator briefly and rejoins his team. If this is to go to the toilet or answer the phone etc then fair enough but on some occasions it appears as if people are using this to their advantage by seeing where the opponents are and then rejoining their team with the knowledge. Sometimes the player has done this several times in a quick period and it will lead the admin to suspect the worst. as with AFK, if you are going AFK its best to leave and free the slot and it'll avoid this suspicion too. Admins will occasionally go spectator briefly to find and remove AFKs or to spectate players they are getting complaints about.
Penalty: Kicked

7. Don't base camp. Too often players sit on their 1st or 2nd flags/caps and do absolutely nothing to help their team mates. The aim of the game is to move forward, get the flags/caps, and eventually win by getting all of them. People sitting around at the back doing nothing useful will be removed. In TF2 this rule especially applies to engineers and medics who have to be fast.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned

8. Don't team stack.
2 or 3 players from the same clan shouldn't be a big issue in most cases but it depends on the clan and the situation. An organised clan that is stacking up on the same team will bring imbalance to the game play. Often they only play with each other, help each other and they do not play together with the rest of the team. The opposing team will also have problems because they are not as organised. This rule does not apply to GTFO members.
Penalty: Team Swapped/Kicked. Repeat offenders banned

9. Don't Ignore Warnings from Admins
Alot of cases things will come down to admin discretion, for example if you are asked to get down from a exploit, get down.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

10. Don't Rate/Ping Hack
Rate hacking is a form of bypassing the ping kicker by pretending to show to the server you have a lower ping than what you really have. You will appear to be very laggy to other players and a lot harder to kill. Rate hacking can take many forms including the use of the "+" symbol or using obscure number values for your rates. If you want to find out how to correctly set up your rates visit this post
Penalty: Permanent ban. If appealed by the banned player and they change their rates the ban will be reduced

DODS specific rules
1. Don't whore limited weapons. On GTFO servers certain weapons (usually sniper, MG and rockets) are limited. It is common courtesy to use other weapons and not choose to be a sniper/mg/rocket at the start of every game. People who only play overwhelmingly with one class or weapon will be shown the exit.
Penalty: Kicked, repeated offenders banned.

2. Don't flag camp/whore. People try to play innocent with this but its really stupid and any admin looking can spot it easily. It shows you to be nothing but a points whore. For more detail - flag camping is the process whereby the player sits around a flag for extended periods of time and only runs out to a) defend at the last second when the enemy is taking it, or b) runs out at the last second when his team mates have done the hard work by sitting exposed. Those who run back and forward collecting multiple caps/defends will be banned. If you get a defend go and try to kill the enemies rather than stepping back and repeating the defend.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

3. Don't deliberately block areas with furniture. Going on one team and then deliberately blocking areas, like sniper rooms, with furniture and then changing team to make use of the advantage will not be tolerated.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

TF2 specific rules
1. Rules for Engineers (TF2)
Do not build in designated exploit areas. More Info...
Penalty: Buildings Destroyed, Kicked or Tempban. Repeat offenders banned.

2. "Battle Medics"
The "Battle Medic", usually a pair of medics who will build up an Über, use it on the other medic and then attempt to get another Über by using the Übersaw to attack the other team and then once again Übering the other medic and repeating the process as many times as possible.
Penalty: Kicked. Repeat offenders banned.

Notes for players
If you abide by these rules you'll likely never have any problem with an admin on the server. Those who break the rules can expect to find themselves kicked. Those breaking the rules again and again will find themselves being banned for longer and longer periods until they are permanently removed for being a trouble maker. If you are banned by an admin the details of the ban should appear in our "Bans" section here. A corresponding forum post should appear in our "Bans/suspect players" forum section found here. (for some short time bans this may not be the case). In this forum you can choose to appeal the ban if you believe it has been unfairly applied. Be civilised about it. Being an asshole won't get you anywhere.

(This post is subject to periodic change by admins as we see fit and all players will have to abide by these simple and fair guidelines.)
