Steve Jobs Resigns From Apple

Postby Neelix » 25 Aug 2011, 00:50

CUPERTINO, Calif.–August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know.

Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve
I'm sure everyone thinks I'm paranoid

We got you surrounded! ...At least from this side!

Don't see what all the fuss is about, plenty of CEOs step down from their companies for various reasons. But since this is Apple, many media outlets, including the BBC have felt the need to run a special multi-page feature on their website.

Apple seem to be experts at it, high profile lawsuits, "mislaid" protoypes, shock retirements, they generally occur around the imminent release of a new product............

I hope Apple dissapear into a hole, irrespective of the admittedly great consumer products they produce.

Apple (and Google) are seriously screwing up natural freedoms we in the free world have become accustomed to. It is shocking what the world is sleep walking into, lead by Apple and Google.

Apple - top down software control, remote app killing, total editorial control over app content, DRM DRM DRM DRM DRM DRM DRM.

Google - personalised search, illegal data mining.

Fact is if the Apple execs dont want the message you want to broadcast in an itunes distributed app, they will kill it, even if you have already an installed base of n thousand users.

Fact is if you are a left(or right)-leaning voter, the view of the web that Google presents you is far from unbiased.

Those are things that Hitler would have dreamed of. Sure they may seem benign at the moment in free countries like the US and UK, but the moment there is a 'threat', whether real, percieved or even made up, many many people could potentially be screwed over.

I am in no doubt that at some point in my lifetime, say within another 50 years from now, something will come to bear that screws over millions from their passive use of such technologies. I'm just glad I have the techy nouse and currently-percieved over-zealous paranoia to ensure I'm not caught up in it.

Die Apple, and do every decent free-thinking individual a favour.

Think you either missed or didnt understand the issue.

I'm using a computer that I control what software I use. I can also control what gets sent to the internet and what gets sent to 127.0.0.1

Can you do that on your iphone/ipad?

No, but I can click on the little symbol next to your post with your logged IP and all the information I can gather from that. I also use cydia, thus CAN control how my iPhone is used. Not everyone who uses an iPhone is at the mercy of apple.....

Knowing someones IP is not the issue.

Using Cydia your OK then, your in the minority though, and your in the same camp as me (although you probably wont agree with that).

Its the millons who don't that society need to worry about, that's the issue.

It's the old being exposed to something makes you become/act out said something argument, which has been disproved too many times to make it worth arguing about. People have predispostions, they will at some point act these out, no matter what they are exposed to, be it electronic or organic. Having said that, Steve Jobs really needs to be exposed to a few steak dinners......

Err, well yeah, but the angle Im coming at is that the problem is what peolpe aren't exposed to, therefore they have no choice in influence good or bad to act out, they only have the Stevie influence, whatever he chooses that to be.

The people who know about protecting their personal information will do just that, and will not be influenced by brand or label. The rest of the population will carry on with their lives oblivious to how they are being manipulated, probably because they LIKE how their iPhone or iPad works for THEM, and at the end of the day, is it really harming anyone?

Yes, it is. It's harming them because they are potentially not being presented an un-biased view of the world, and a view that can be manipulated.

Nothing likely to happen with todays or tomorrow government. But the fact is it could be used for manipulation, thats the crux, and the reason that top-down control of electronic devices should be stopped.

Theres nothing inherently wrong with Apples decives they are fantastic products(I use one of them in the same manenr as you), what is wrong is the fact that the overseer controls what the non savvy majority can and cant be used on them - this has never been the case on previous operating systems.

Since when has anyone been presented with an unbiased view of the world? Seriously?

Plus, if you mention Hitler in an argument, isn't there a rule of the internet that says you've already lost?
There are 10 types of people. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Speaking on behalf of the non-savy majority....
I remember the days when I HAD to make my own programs...(for those of you not old enough)...there was a time before WINDOWS. The days when a "game" was a list of commands on a black screen. C:/DOS/games/ blah blah blah/blah.exe

Never being the IT minded or savy, this was HOPELESS. I had an IBM that kept crashing, floppy discs that would get stuck in the drive and an actual phone for the modem. THEN I was introduced to the Apple. It was the underdog to the might of the IBM in the US. It was quirky, it was overpriced, and damn hard to get. But boy did I want one! It took over 20 years later for me to get my first Apple and I'm in heaven. No more over heating, no more waste of space around my desk, no more programs that continually ask me questions that I don't care about, it just does what it says on the tin.

There will always be a big bad. It was IBM in my day, then Bill Gates, now Steve Jobs. But I have to ask, where would we be with out these "baddies". Think how far Apple has pushed design and usability. Without Jobs, who will be next...is there someone at Samsung I should be hating?
yes I am a girl, yes I am blonde, and yes that was me shooting you....
