Anybody else been playing Terraria? http://store.steampowered.com/app/10560 ... _151_150_1

I just started getting into it and, imo, it's pretty good.

If you're a fan of Minecraft you may well enjoy this little beauty too.

I have it.

Never installed it. Got to be honest, the massive arm swinging like a maniac-gathering thing does drive me a little up the wall. Oh and the fact that it's 2D which means if i build something, you HAVE TO walk through it to get somewhere else. Oi you kids - GET OWF MOI LAND!!

But i may be wrong.

I feel ya kk - I have a feeling I'm going to do the very same thing with Terraria (which I still can't say or remember how to spell properly). Aaaaand I have a big-ass library of games I haven't launched yet and recently saw that bloody great list of F2P games (free-online-games-t8482.html) - plus Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3, which I've heard is epic - too many games - not enough time!!

@Karr - you will, I'm sure. Besides which, the windmill is a lie.

Well, I can't see this eating as many hours as minecraft did for me. I have beaten all three "bosses" (the Eater of Worlds numerous times), have some of the most powerful weapons and armour and have been to most of the different biomes and I just don't know that it will hold its interest for all that much longer.

Still, it's had me hooked and entertained for a good 30 hours or so and I reckon it'll probably give me another 10 hours and that will probably be that!

Croozin: what's your take? Got far? Played long? Got all the good stuff yet?!

Yeah, I know that, but it REALLY had me hooked after 10 hours (when I wrote opened this thread), then after 30 hours I'm wondering how much longer it will last.

I guess this is where Minecraft is so much better: more versatile with the building aspect and with no ending, so to speak. I feel once I've got the stuff from the lowest levels I'll be happy to put this game down. Or maybe just build a ridiculously big castle.

But, saying that, it will have entertained me greatly for 40 hours, and there's not much out there for a fiver that can do that. What with inflation on prostitution and all.

I've played it a bit, I was gifted it a week or two ago, very fun game. It's one of these games you have to play to see whether it's good or not. I've had fun building a nice house which basically acts as my base and spawn point. It's not really a game where building is the main focus aside from making a little base for protection and gaining NPCs. Exploring was pretty good as well, it's much easier than things like Minecraft since you're not likely to run out of torches and there's more enemies.

I got a bit bored of Minecraft for the time being, far too easy. The game mode is called survival but in every world I make I can have a little house, a bed, decent tools and torches on the first day since once you know what to do you can just do it right away. I'd like some Terraria aspects put into it with some enemies during the day and more enemies in general.

I'll need to give Terraria multiplayer a go at some point. Looks like the type of game that's much more fun with other players.

Feel free to add me Getsuga, and we could hook up for some multiplayer. It's a bit limited at present though, 'cause so far I've only got it working as a multiplayer when I'm actually playing the game myself (the map saves to my PC and it kicks everyone off as soon as I leave - which is probably by design, but it's a little annoying).

There's probably a better way of doing it, but I haven't bothered researching it just yet!

You've been on my friends list for a while now already. :P You can download the servers software from their site I believe (not available on Steam unfortunately), if you can get that running properly I think that should work as you're wanting. The MP hosting when you run the game normally seems just to act similar to how hosting a game on consoles works.

Ahhh - just seen that you're AKA "GTS", which I know in-game. Didn't realise you are one and the same!

Oh, I've got multiplayer working fine (since I messed with my router config, that is). I just mean it's a shame you can't have MP running elsewhere to be connected to any time. I did this for Minecraft and was paying £70 a month for a server, but I won't be doing that for Terraria!

Here's a business idea:

1. host servers specifically for Terraria
2. allow uploading of maps from local machine
3. run 24x7 as a managed service
4. ???????
5. PROFIT!

Yeah kugs, can you believe it? Started out at £25/month and I kept adding RAM/ghz/disk/bandwidth as it grew, all with an ever increasing monthly cost!

£54 for a year of Terraria is tempting.

You could have rented a medium spec dedicated server for that amount probably, which you might have been in theory depending on how much resources you were paying for at that price!

Was a good game tonight Sock. I only realised it lasted about 3 hours after I checked online. We'll have to continue that massive drop another time. You can host dedicated server software and play the game on your PC at the same time but then if you want it to stay up you have to leave your PC on all the time which isn't the best.

Looks like how you're hosting games at the moment works fine though. I'm at least unlikely to log on unless someone is on there anyways.

@GTS, yeah, 'twas good last night (although you really should have told me you were streaming live - I was quite happily banging on about sneaking off for a smoke!). I'll leave the Hellevator for when you're next online. Perhaps tonight, if I'm/you're about!

Any chance you can make your connection a little more stable? What was with that anyway - was that because you were streaming live?

@onlypure: nice! What you enjoying most? How are you getting on in your world? Have you tried MP yet?

Tbh where it was streamed to doesn't really have an audience, just that one person who happened to have a look when we where digging that drop, you're secrets about going off for a smoke are safe. ;) Was more just about having it set up properly than anything tbh.

My connection should have been fine the first night. Last night I was lagging a bit because we dropped quite a lot of water from various locations at once. As soon as that calmed down my connection was back to normal. Also hell wasn't too nice. :S

Hell is scary and burny! We need to craft some Obsidian Skin potions to negate the lava damage... Doesn't help you from the bats and fire imps and slime and demons though! Eek!

Also, we leaving the water where it is and having to climb down the last section? I guess we can't get water to go any further 'cause of it evaporating in Hell. Cobwebs are only temporary, so that wouldn't help. Hmmm.

Yeah - you lagged tons when we starting shifting that water. Must remember to try not to do that too much then!

@onlypure: you'd be welcome to join us mate - add me on Steam (if we're not already friends!) and I'll drop you a msg when we're next on. Might be tonight! :p Oh, and we don't run a dedicated server atm, it's just hosted on my PC.

We'll need to get another game going soon. We'll need to get back to clearing Hell out and seeing what we can find there. And yeah about the water, good amount where it is meaning we can move it along to the side a bit if we happen to need to later on (if we ever go up and search around some of the caves we just completely ignored on the way down. :P

I shouldn't die nearly as quickly this time, maxed out my health after playing a little MP, rushing through caves and mining about 8 heart containers. In my own world, I destroyed 3 shadow orbs in the corruption, Eater of Worlds appears then in the middle of me doing a fair bit of damage to it, it ran away. No message, no death, it just legged it. That happened when I was streaming as well, was really odd.

I've put in 10 hours on Terraria now, really liking its easy jump in and jump out functionality. Only had 1 boss fight so far in MP with Pure, after which he accidentally deleted his first character  . Haven't got that much stuff and only grabbed 4 heart containers so far, but really love the different weapons and items.
Haven't played any for a week, and want to get some more MP time back in, so when I get back from sailing i'll be looking for some peeps to join me!
P.S. I also have minecraft and I treat them as two completely different games. In layman's terms Minecraft is a build it, destroy it game for me whereas Terraria is a 2D Side scroller.

Once you get back join a game with me again. Got some heart containers you can have. Also yeah Minecraft is nothing like Terraria at all tbh. You can destroy and place blocks but that's where the similarities end for the most part. I should be up for playing it when you're back as well as I'm not playing it atm.
