Hey folks, right now we are checking if we can realize this idea or not, the outcome depends on your partizipation :)
As the title states im planning an event called “TF2 Nations Cup” which shall be a friendly competition within the GTFO-Community.
At first its planned as Tournament which is hold once, but if this tournament will be a success GTFO might think about installing a regular league which is hold over the year.
The basic idea is to gather the best players on GTFO from each country and to throw them on a server as a Team to represent their country. Your “nationality” is determined by the flag which is appearing next to you in the ranks, so if you are an latin-arabic albino who just moved from Alaska to Switzerland, you have to play for the most peaceful country in middle-europe ;)
Needless to say that naturilazing into another country isn´t possible (stay where you are!)
Modus will be Highlander and its planned as a tournament but it may change depending on the response of the community.

Take a quick look at the reglement:
– Each Teammember has to be a player who plays on GTFO Servers on a regular basis
– Teammembers have to be located in the country they are representing (through the flag at rankings)
– 6 Players on each squad + 4 Subs
– Teams aren´t allowed to have more than 5 players of one Clan
– 1 Team-captain who is our contact for the organization
– Vanilla Respawn
- Medic- and Demomanlimit 1, Classlimit 2
- Depending on the numbers of Teams a KO Tournament or League System
- If the score is tied after the timelimit has been reached a decider round (golden cap) will have to be played.
If no team has scored a round after 10 minutes have passed the team that is holding the middle point after
the 10 minutes will win.

GTFO will help us out with:
– #00 private server by GTFO
– 2nd server by Luckyg
– Support from the Admins
– For the First : 1 Year of Donator Status and Special Dogtags for each Member.
The other Places gets something too, but this depends on the number of Teams.

Maps:
Each match features 2 maps, both teams decide on one map that they would like to play from the list below. However once a team has picked a map they cannot pick that map again later on in the tournament so think wisely! :D

- Coldfront
- Fastlane
- Freight
- Granary
- Well
- Gravel Pit
- Gorge
- Thunder Mountain
- Hoodoo
- Badwater Basin
- Double Cross

If you are interested you can contact me or [p.e.]CK and we´ll help you find a team or you just start a thread on the GTFO-board :)

Teamlist : http://www.gtfogaming.co.uk/community/tf2-nations-cup-team-lists-t9058.html

Build a team and join the cup!

Hey KloetenPaul,

Thanks for taking the time to post your proposal on the forums, personally I quite like the idea of a GTFO sponsored TF2 Nations Tournament. Obviously however I cannot speak on behalf of the other GTFO admin members, and therefore some internal deliberation will be required before an official response can be given.

i could see it being a challenge trying to group players from different countries into a team, and then arranging everyone in those teams to show up regularly at the same time and at the same place...
- "we need a spy killin GTFO.J !!!"
- "kill that fuckin sniper"
- " GTFO.J this is the first you've fucked me like this. and i dont like it"
- " fuck this, dont we have a sniper whom ping is less than 50 to take out gtfo.j????"

Personally, I think this rule "if you are an latin-arabic albino who just moved from Alaska to Switzerland, you have to play for the most peaceful country in middle-europe" should be changed to, you can between the 2 countries. Because I don't even know enough Irish to make a team and I would be more happy playing for England :)

Yeah, indeed, some countries would have multiple teams, or even a lot of teams, while others wont have nuff members. some solutions for that would be nice. Like several of such allowed to joining eachother etc.

Ofcourse such like this would attract players, I saw earlier statements about ppl need to be "high"** in the stats to be allowed in. Think that would ofcourse draw new players in, but then a "limit" must be set for it (top 3000 or w/e would seem to be proving its a regular) to be proven a "regular".

as for the competition itself later... it will need requirements as such, like mandatory making demo's, and upload those. Rules like public profiles, established player, no changing members of team. Also, most league's have some application checking the configurations and installed stuff in the game etc. Scripts used must be approved, and if too complicated they are often rejected. also certain settings are mandatory in the game (yawspeed one of them if I remember correctly) Think it will be quite hard to manage all this, taking a lot of human resources to run it, and check the bunch out.

1 match, 18 players background check, 18 player configs and settings/scripts, 36 demo's (1 per map, 2 maps per match done...) and reviewing ALL those for significant matches for cheats, even the soft-cheats like wallhacks or slow-aimbots etc. Mini adminships so they can change maps, restart them etc.

Tbh, don't think everybody here can recognize all cheats. Even I had a hard time recognizing with a demo I reviewed a while back (somewhere else) for being a slow-aimbot. Maybe if I see such next time I just do a movie render on 100fps... maybe its shown better then. One needs to learn to "see" its footprints.

Then is there the website... the forum is nice, but once a few hundred players get spamming for challenges, team seeking players, players seeking teams, and any easy managing for their information regarding all this. It will require some tournament website allowing all those players to do such, with different allowance rights for the team-captains to accept a player in their team etc.

Its already that its more than half of the banning of hackers is reported players on the forum. With 38 admins that should be better by them being on the servers checking the players. Cos with such the hackers will come in by the dozens. A long time association for the players with GTFO would be required to deter them at least a bit. But checking would still be needed, for anybody can buy anytime a hack or get educated a bit and start using it.

I talked with a admin from a league once on chat, the above is just a small bit of what they do.

In short, please don't underestimate the workload on such, its quite severe, and requires a lot of preparing to be ready for such. I don't think there are enough active admins to do both the current workload and then this competition. Even if its small scaled for now, it can grow fast out of hand, and been unmanageable to keep up.

That is a possible avenue indeed... but when do you lay a snapshot for the bunch of "regulars" in the stats, and how do you go on with the new crowd after a months reset, or even a FULL reset as has been happening lately?

limiting with a static list of what that month's top 1000 is (or w/e), is a bit hard. Mainly cos players drop out, and teams needing new players.

Limiting it to the admin's "known" players would limit it to ... say 1000 players... max!. Of those a small will be willing & able to do so I guess. Its for most of them too much to do the requirements of regular play, timed practice with the team, do the matches etc. Good way to shift and keep it small, bad way to get a complete team...

Also, above teammembers in the OP I dont know.... maybe a admin does? (and leave out the recent stuff then). The only one I recog there is "Panromir"... if that is the same player I encountered.

As you see, such becomes easily a hard thing.

think I've put enough here to let them think about it with a real sense of what the problems are around it now... altho some admins where already aware of a number of aspects I believe.

well i think its a great idea to have a nations cup because there are a lot of many different nations playing on GTFO servers :) I will do my best to bulid up a Russian team, but so far we have only 3 members :(
Also we could use a standrd 6v6 set up (I mean 2 sollies, 2 scoots, a demo, a medic and other class limits set to 1)?
Besides, i guess some teams will have problems with gathering players, and its always easy to get 6 players than 9
