The Elder Scolls: Skyrim

Postby GTFO. Systematic Slayer » 20 Oct 2011, 14:26

Can't see a topic on this game yet...

I liked Oblivion and Morrow Wind at the time, but they are outdated now, so I am looking forward to this game. Sounds like a lot of customisable things can be done (spells, enchantments etc.) And with the dragon aspect of things it looks like a fun game!

35 quid to pre-order on Steam.

Just watched the trailer. Looks like something I might enjoy - never played Oblivion though so perhaps I'll wait for the sales! :P

The trailer is epic! It also seems like Bethseda have finally fixed the crappy doll-like death animations they have had in all their previous games. (Something that has been bugging me about their games for a while.)

And to be honest, I am a pretty hardcore RPG fan, so I have this one preordered. (Not good for money, but hey!) Been quite a while waiting after Oblivion. One thing I have always loved about the series is the levelling up system. Really does allow for a lot of personalisation. Very much looking forward to the game though.

I'm quite looking forward to this game but I think I might pass up on buying it at launch and get it in a few months after instead. Would just get it on release but I'll be picking up MW3 (possibly Halo: CE Anniversary as well but might wait a few months for that as well) and I don't really want to be spending too much money on games all at once. Reasons I'll probs get them before Skyrim is because they have multiplayer.

I'll definitely be getting this at some point though if I don't bother at release. Looks great and from what I've read has a hell of a lot of things you can do in it. Most likely getting it for console as well, sitting back and playing on a TV is something that makes the Elder Scrolls games much more immersive imo. Got Oblivion on PC as well and it just didn't feel right.

Apparently it took 5 months to create the Walk Through guide and 2000 hours of play :D

Looking forward to it, but I fear I may not have time to play it much right now. Arkham City is out this week too. :(

According to Game, my preorder's been shipped along with Skyrim, but I see the release date is now 25th November. What the fucking fuck? It's been delayed once already.

However, I'd rather have a fully polished game than one that's a crappy PC port, and Arkham Asylum ran brilliantly, so I can't complain. Having said that, I am just wondering if the delay is due to not wanting to compete with Skyrim.

I've gone and bought this rather than wait for the sales (care of Unusual hat sale!!) and can't wait to play it (although stupid RL is getting in the way - damn you RL!)

Well its was UK midnight release but had been talking to Aussie friends the night before while they were playing and we're loving it. Got to see some pics yesterday as people were playing and some more this morning as the american copy finally released.

It does look pretty nice, and gameplay sounds awesome, but have heard a few bugs and exploits already from mates e.g.
Things glitching in midair after killing you, or slowly floating off into space...
and that Giants can't get under some bridges so you can just keep running close hitting them and running back or spamming magic, rinse and repeat...

Overall big thumbs up!

P.S. I didn't buy it

Is still £34.99, and has been for a while I think (even on pre-order)? £19.99 is my ideal price.

I would say the graphics aren't bad loser...but there def not amazing. Even on ultra people's steam screenies show bad edges, pixilated close ups and blurry bits sometimes. However the Gameplay looks really good and the choice and customisation is immense.
I'll wait even further than kugs :P maybe at under £15

This no longer matters when you walk near a stream and see raindrops trickling on the water, or venturing up a mountain and a snowstorm begins, or flickering silhouettes on the walls of dungeons when an enemy walks past some candles, or bees flying about, or dragonflies hovering over a river.

For an open world game to look this beautiful is such an amazing achievement. It's easy to judge how the game looks on screenshots, but you will never understand what it's like until you've booted it up yourself.

One thing to note is that the menus on the PC are very crap. Also I had to edit one of the config files just to get my mouse sensitivity higher than the max in the options menu, as well as increase the fov in the console to 80. Clearly it's a console port which isn't always a bad thing because Sonic Generations had a fantastic port to PC, but the menus could be improved on I think.

Agree with the menus Russ, frustrating (click an option in an all-important decision making dialogue and BAM it picks a different option).

The menu system could be a steaming pile of crap where you're made to use your elbow to select the options you want whilst dancing a fandango and balancing a plate of live fish on your nose and I'd still fucking LOVE this game.

Love the level up paths, love the alchemy, blacksmithing, spell casting. Love the exploring and the sheer size and beauty of the world.

Awesome game.
