USB/Wireless headsets

Postby Captain Toaster » 21 Apr 2009, 20:10

Do any of you use USB or wireless headsets?

I normally use normal headphone/mic jack headsets but I keep breaking them and I think i've actually half-broken my mic socket now so I'm looking at wireless or USB. If you use either, what do you use, and how would you rate it for sound quality (and interference if wireless)?

Thanks

I recommend Sony if the price isn't a problem:

These are all Bluetooth headsets:

Then there are other headsets that use Infrared and Radio Frequency but they don't have a microphone, which I think you want in your headset?

I highly recommend:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plantronics-Aud ... 25&sr=1-58

They've just gone down as I just paid 40quid for a new set (left my old set in the London office, went missing and company wouldn't buy me a new set!)

Best headset i've ever had, very lightweight and sound quality is fantastic.

I've used the mic on its own but plugged in through jack, not tried it plugged into the USB on its own though.

Don't you find it's easier to pinpoint where someone is when you can't see them with headphone audio?

That said, I have basic speakers (that I never use for gaming) so I've never had 5.1...

That headset looks epic. I'm worried that i'd mess up the 3.5mm jacks and put all that money down the toilet, though.

There is a USB version but it mentions something about a sound card?????? Maybe I should e-mail them for an explanation.

It comes with it's own USB sound card, so what you have is the headset with the normal jacks which attach into the USB sound card which is then plugged into the machine via USB. The idea is that you can take this anywhere and still get good sound quality as you would with a dedicated sound card. That's what I can gather at a glance from the page anyway.

This is correct. But then he still have the 3.5mm jacks to worry about anyway :)

OK, I have ordered the plantronics set! I hope it comes quickly, as there are lots of LOLs to be had on #4 if you have a microphone :) and newbie medics need direction.

im not entirely sure 5.1 helps my gaming. I cant say I notice things any better. TF2 is inherently "noisy" anyway so its not like its a tom clancy game.

Headset arrived today! Probably won't get a chance to try it out until Saturday - seems to sit on the head differently to the average headset which I will have to get used to.

I love it because its lightweight and fantastic sound quality. Not sure about the fitting differently? Could be that you're used to heavier headphones :)
