Use of Fastswitch exploit

Postby dsotm » 23 Aug 2010, 14:15

I love playing on your servers as a sniper but find often the game is ruined by snipers employing the fastswitch exploit to eliminate the scope delay when aiming. These guys are easy to spot as they strafe/run from side to side then shoot without getting the aim delay the rest us have. Most servers I play on ban players who use this exploit - what is the policy here?

We ban too. We've just banned someone in the past day or so.

If you suspect anyone of cheating (in whatever way), try record a demo that shows clearly what they are up to and we'll review it and dish out the appropriate response.
There are 10 types of people. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

in some cases this may be people using a key which switches to another weapon then straight back to sniper which cuts out any reloading animation, which is allowed.
- "we need a spy killin GTFO.J !!!"
- "kill that fuckin sniper"
- " GTFO.J this is the first you've fucked me like this. and i dont like it"
- " fuck this, dont we have a sniper whom ping is less than 50 to take out gtfo.j????"

I am familiar with that. but its not the one I mean. This is the exploit that eliminates the aim delay from iron to scope.

Thanks for the info - I will try and get the demos next time round

If you suspect someone and are unable to make a demo, then you are always also welcome to come and call an admin to come and spec, and if necessary ban.
You can either send an admin a personal message, or you can come in to the group chat as most of the time you will find an admin there able to help.
Thanks for posting.

What i do is just press Q twice fast after a shot, not a cheat or exploit, weapon switching is popular in tf2 & css also cod, its a pretty usual thing to do nothing to "ban" from :)

@ teemu92
I don't think dsotm is talking about "quick switching" or even a quickswitch script. He's talking about the time it takes to go from iron to scoped view.

@ dsotm You call it an "exploit" so you're not talking about a script ("hacking")?
If it's an exploit then how does it work? Besides there are enough snipers who can scope-aim-fire in a flash.

I think what he's talking about is the cl_autozoom 0 config setting. Basically this make it so you have to manually re-scope everytime but it also allows you to manually unsope after a shot. It takes more work and timing can be tricky but for some reason this way of sniping is faster. This is allowed in league play and stuff, and I didn't see it mentioned in the rules. So I'm wondering if this is allowed in the regular pub servers?
